Hottest Stocks in CW 22/24

Novavax's stock, which shot through the roof during the coronavirus pandemic, is now being traded on the stock market as if the company is a serious candidate for bankruptcy. This is partly due to the Management Board, having warned when the annual financial results were published at the end of February that the survival of the company in the coming year was by no means certain. The decisive factor for Novavax will be whether the US pharmaceutical company can be successful with its Covid-19 vaccine. In recent weeks, the company has reported that it has signed a licence agreement with Sanofi worth at least 1.2 billion dollars for the vaccine. It also reported positive data both for a Covid-flu combi-vaccine and also for other vaccines, as well as announcing a radical cost-cutting plan. According to the plan, expenditure is set to be reduced by between 40 and 50 % compared to the 2022 financial year, in part by cutting a quarter of the workforce

Trading-Sentiment:

The stock, which slumped to a low of around $ 3.30 earlier this year, rallied to a high of $ 16 last week. The upswing was accompanied by a number of purchases by wikifolio traders, as the current trading sentiment at Novavax shows. Axel Albietz (TraderOnkel) added the stock to his well-performing wikifolio A.A. High-Risk last Tuesday. He was able to sell off half of the position just one day later with a solid profit of 9%, continuing to keep hold of his remaining Novavax stock.

Peloton Interactive's stock has not yet achieved a sustainable recovery following its rapid nosedive. At the beginning of May, however, there were glimmers of hope when the price shot up from just over $ 2.50 to around $ 4.50. This initial rise was probably triggered by reports that several private equity firms were considering a takeover of the provider of interactive fitness platforms. Since then, however, nothing more has come of this, resulting in the stock relinquishing most of its recent gains.

Trading-Sentiment:

Some wikifolio traders have apparently picked up the scent, however, and have acquired the stock in recent days. This may also be due to the fact that the company presented a new global refinancing plan at the beginning of last week. A look at the trading sentiment shows that Peloton Interactive has a clear buyer overhang. Analysts are also forecasting further potential share price rises - at least it seems this way at first glance. According to analysts, the average target price for the stock is $ 4.77, which is a whopping 51 % higher than the stock is currently trading at.

Cryptocurrencies have been showing clear signs of strength again over the past few weeks in relative terms. The anticipation of the official approval of an Ethereum spot ETF by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, which was actually announced last week, has certainly fuelled this latest upward trend. Bitcoin, still the world's largest cryptocurrency, is currently on course to once again reach the level of its all-time high first recorded in March. If a significant breakthrough is achieved here, the risk of a market bull trap at the 2021 high (which was only briefly broken in March before the price dropped again) will finally be a thing of the past.

This would also benefit MicroStrategy, which owns more than 1 % of all bitcoins that have ever existed and is constantly increasing its holdings. The correspondingly positive price performance has now earned the stock a place in the renowned MSCI World share index. This is particularly exciting since many private investors are currently holding investments in the price index via exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and the MSCi World is particularly popular with savings plans. This regularly creates new demand for the stocks included in the index.

MicroStrategy is also very popular with wikifolio traders. However, in recent days, traders have also been taking profits. For example, in the Growth and Value Europa und USA wikifolio, which is managed by Daniel Schnekenburger (Danstocks). This is dependent on the performance of Bitcoin via various positions, which is why the trader describes the partial sale of the stock as a "risk diversification measure". "I am convinced about the long-term prospects of Bitcoin, but 10 % is too high," commented the trader with regard to the individual positions. In the medium term, he is aiming for a total portfolio share of just 4 %.

The share price of pharmaceutical drug researcher Evotec is simply not picking up. Short-term recovery attempts are repeatedly thwarted by new setbacks. Since reaching a high of around € 46 in autumn 2021, the share has lost over 80 % of its value. This year alone, it has fallen by almost 60 %. The company has suffered a further loss of confidence primarily as a result of the resignation of long-serving CEO Werner Lanthaler, who sold Evotec stock over a period of three years without making a public announcement. The figures for the first quarter published last week also failed to trigger a change in sentiment. With a moderate decline in sales, the Group suffered a 77 % decrease in EBITDA.

Not everyone on the stock market believes that the annual targets that have already been confirmed (sales growth in the region of a double-digit percentage increase and profitability growth in the mid double-digit percentage range) will actually be achieved. Especially as Evotec has also announced that a more detailed forecast is being developed together with the new CEO, who starts at the beginning of July, and an update is expected when the mid-year figures are published. Christian Scheid (Scheid), who manages the very successful wikifolio Special Situations long/short, is "sceptical as to whether this essential recovery will be successful". In his view, the stock remains "uninteresting".

Other wikifolio traders who have invested so far have sold the stock. Christian Mallek from SIGAVEST Vermögensverwaltung GmbH initially praised the equity ratio of a healthy 50 % and the "development potential of the drug pipeline" after the publication of the figures, but then pulled the plug shortly afterwards in the wikifolio VV Wachstum Global: "We are selling Evotec after all and waiting for a better entry opportunity. We are waiting for the new CEO to take over on 1 July".
