Professionally, before moving to China, I worked as an investment advisory specialist for a major Swiss bank, devising investment recommendations (stocks, bonds, ETF, mutual funds) for the bank's Private Banking clients.
Personally, I started investing at age 18. Since then, I have been a firm believer in low-cost, long-term, buy-and-hold strategies that ignore short-term noise but keep the "eyes on the prize": The ultra-long-term potential gains of technology firms' shares. Unfortunately, many investors get nervous in turbulent stock market times and sell their shares at the worst possible points in history. Only a tiny few have the patience to persist without a trade for 10, 20, 30+ years.
While I have invested in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETF, cryptocurrencies, and gold for many years, I started analyzing and buying Chinese shares only two years ago when I moved to China and experienced the insane development of Chinese tech first-hand. Over the past two years, I have achieved 300%+ returns on my Chinese stock selections. It paid off to have a significant information advantage over most Western investors, who often only talk about China but have usually never set foot in the next big superpower. While studying at MIT in Boston and Tsinghua University in Beijing - China's leading education institution - I started to feel that China is quickly overpassing the US in technology and being lightyears ahead of Europe. Yet, most Western investors - even very experienced professionals - seem to misunderstand Chinese tech completely. The full scale of China's technological sophistication and mind-blowing growth can in my view only be understood after living in this developmental miracle of a country. I firmly believe that Chinese tech firms could take over the world within a few decades, similar to how US tech firms have established global dominance.
A majority of my time dedicated to the portfolio is consumed by fundamental analysis of potential buys, market research in English and Chinese, discussions with Chinese finance professionals, and investigating technology news sources.
I am personally invested in the wikifolio and plan to have roughly 10-20% of my total assets invested in it over the next five years.
